Defying Tyrants: Following Jesus in the Age of Christian Nationalism - November 6, 7 pm
Christian Nationalism is a term that gets kicked around in the news. Many us have come to understand that it's everywhere, from the internet to the upper echelons of power, and that its ideas are destructive for both our politics and our faith. But it's often hard to exactly pin down what makes it so bad, even as it's so appealing to so many people. How can we define and understand this broad and influential phenomenon? How then do we respond as people who claim to follow Jesus' call to self-giving love, rather than self-aggrandizing hate?
Bad theology needs a good theological response.
On November 6th, at 7 pm, Central is excited to welcome Dr. Matthew D. Taylor to illuminate the complex dynamics of Christian Nationalism, and what a faithful response might look like. Dr. Taylor's research on the inner workings of Christian Nationalism, including an influential movement called the New Apostolic Reformation, has given him audiences from college campuses to National Public Radio. Join us for an event that will be informative, engaging, and empowering - a needed antidote to fear and resignation.
