The following statement was shared with Central members via email on November 13, 2019.
An announcement was made.
Last Sunday in worship, Rev. Ashley Bair announced that she had met with Session and asked them to call a congregational meeting to dissolve the pastoral relationship. In her statement, she said:
"I will be leaving my position as Associate Pastor of Central Presbyterian Church effective November 22, 2019. I want to reassure you that, while a very difficult and sad decision to make, this came with thoughtful and careful prayer and discernment. I am grateful to God for the sacred moments that we shared together this year. The joy and enthusiasm that you have for each other and for your neighbor has been a blessing to witness. Thank you for your support, love, and welcoming spirit. While this journey was short, it was worth it to get to know you and be blessed by you. I know that whatever is ahead for Central and for myself, God will be holding us all. Scripture tells us that endings are also new beginnings. As I look to the future, I give thanks for the continuing call of God on this congregation and pray for its health and witness to Christ in the months and years to come."
As Rev. Colby said during his sermon, we truly wish and pray that Ashley will soar and find joy and meaning in the next call for her life.
A result of Ashley's request.
A congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019, following the worship service for the purpose of acting on the request of the Designated Associate Pastor for Central Presbyterian Church, Ashley Bair, to dissolve the pastoral relationship by and between Central Presbyterian Church and Reverend Bair, effective November 22, 2019.
Understanding what's next.
At the start of this journey, Session and the nominating committee spent a great deal of intentional effort, thought, prayer and planning to explore a new Associate Pastor position for Central - crafting the position description, exploring candidates and extending a call. Rev. Bair spent equal effort on her side to ensure the best course for her future before deciding to depart her Michigan home, secure this position and become a part of Central's community. Both parties worked diligently to ensure the best fit for all involved. In the end, it simply was not.
At this time, Session and the Personnel Committee are working to address the logistical requirements of Ashley's requested departure. The coming days, weeks, and months will require space committed to assessing and understanding what is best for Central moving forward. Rev. Colby and Session members understand that there are many questions during this time, but ask for your patience as they work to address several overlapping conversations.
Further information will be shared as it is available.
